God responds according to your beliefs - Sri Amma Bhagavan.
In one of His talks, I heard Bhagavan saying that God Realisation can easily lead us to Awakening while Awakening need not necessary lead to God Realisation. He also says God Realisation is the fastest train to Mukti. This has even made some westeners to look towards God Realisation.
Fortunately, God Realisation has always been the essence of India and most of the Indians have been oriented on this, as a part of their bringing up. Yet, it is a pity that a few of us are really God Realised. Before we see what God Realisation is, let us first see some myths about God Realisation and what is not God Realisation.
God Realisation is not the following activities:
1) going to places of worship everyday;
2) chanting mantras, or doing puja or some sacred rituals daily;
3) meditation and yoga;
4) reading the sacred books daily or often;
5) listening to divine discourses daily or often;
6) giving discourses on God or discussing on God;
7) singing bhajans/holy songs in praise of God;
8) helping people in need;
9) not even Praying.
All the above activities may lead to God Realisation, but they themselves are not the same as realising God. Let us first see, why we do the above activities. We do a few or all these things for one or more of the following reasons:
1. We do them because we fear that if we do not do them, no God will help us in need.
2. We do these things more due to habits from childhood.
3. We do them because of social, family or religious Conditioning and obligations.
4. We do them because we think this is a better way of living.
5. We do them because we think it is a better way of passing time.
6. We also do them because we get company.
7. We do these things because we believe it will keep our Mind healthy.
8. We do them because we believe these things will bring us success and happiness, etc., etc., etc.
All the above activities are a means to God Realisation. God Realisation actually means Experiencing God, that is:
1. Seeing & Talking with God and Listening to God as He speaks to us,
2. Feeling for what God wants and not what we want, and
3. Feeling God Himself as He is at any moment within us.
Now we have the following questions within us: While talking to God is possible, Is hearing or listening to God possible? What does god want from each of us? How to feel God within us?
For God Realisation, what we need is, a bond with the God/Divine to whom we relate and pray daily. This bond can be developed by the following ways:
1. by Having a relationship with your God. You should regard/view your God as a close relative, as your mother/father/sister/brother/child/spouse or a very close friend.
2. by Talking to your God all the time inside you, every minute you are awake/conscious.
3. by Talking with your God like a friend with true emotion, whatever emotion it may be. Without emotion, all the talk is useless.
The more and more we talk, the better and better is the bond. When this friendship becomes more and more close, the Divine or the God inside us cannot keep quiet. He/she will respond to you very soon, most unexpectedly. You can actually hear/feel your God talking to you in the language you know. You can hear and also see and feel the emotion of the Divine talking to you. The Divine/God is also emotional like us. It is wonderful to experience God's emotion. This response from God fills us with tremendous Divine Presence and extreme bliss.
As Amma and Bhagavan have taken the sankalpa to give their divine presence on just asking with bond, many of the devotees in the oneness movement have been living and talking and experiencing a live God/Goddess in their hearts since so many years.
This wonderful bond (Bhakti in Sanskrit) with the Divine, is the most necessary tool for God Realisation. The more the bhakti is, the more the realisation. There is no end to this bhakti at all. It goes on and on!
This bhakti is nothing but an emotion towards our God; an emotion for God; an emotion with God. If the above mentioned activities like visiting temples, doing sacred rituals, chanting mantras, praying, etc., are done with this emotion, then all these activities become Bhakti and sacred, creating a beutiful bond between you and your God/Divine. If the same activities are carried on without any such feeling or emotion, they just remain as activities and NOT BHAKTI1 It is only true Bhakti that leads to god realisation.
We can easily practice talking to God as we do all our work. We need not take any special time for this. Talking to God itself is prayer and bhakti/bond. Now, many ask me, 'what should we talk to god?'
Actually one should talk to God what comes to one naturally. Here remember, content of the talk is not important; talking is important. What we talk is not important; but just talking is important. We can talk about anything to god - about ourselves, our work, our problems, about movies, tv serials, our favourite star shows, hero/heroines, our friends, boy-friends, girl-friends, games, children, nature, books, anything for that matter.
When Sri Bhagavan became as the Antaryamin God inside my daughter and myself, a few years back, we asked Him questions on various matters. I remember one experience vividly. Every day, Aishwarya, my daughter, and I exchanged all our dialogues with Bhagavan. One day, we were just discussing about how Eskimos build Igloos. Aishwarya was in Seventh standard then. Suddenly both of us thought of asking Bhagavan this question. So we asked this question together to the Sri murti (a laminate photo of) Bhagavan in our house. (At that time we had not seen the physical/Purushottam Bhagavan).
Believe it or not, Sri Bhagavan took us both to Iceland, and explained and showed us exactly how Eskimos built Igloos and how they made fire. We saw how beautifully these eskimos lived in groups and helped each other in groups. It was something to learn from. We witnessed everything by way of vision (a typical mystical experience), just staying at home! Bhagavan also revealed to us then, that there will be no need for books in future (after some years, when the Golden Age is established completely) and people will learn everything from inside their hearts through their divine gods!
Hence, the more natural we are with our Divine, the better is the bond and the relationship with the Divine! And More joy to our lives! And real meaning to our lives!

Good spiritual read. Loved the reasons why we indulge in the daily prayer chores. Got a bit confused with the Iceland episode though. I guess it was vision.
