ANTARYAMIN

ANTARYAMIN

Formless as I am, the Antaryamin shall awaken formless inside you or in the form you desire or the form I choose, or I shall manifest to you outside again in the form you desire or the form I choose; for every Form is My Form and I am your Supreme Friend, if only you would seek Me with your whole heart.

- Sri Bhagavn

The following are some of the common perceptions people have with regard to the awakening of the Antaryamin. We think if we have to experience God or a live Antaryamin God, we need to have the following qualifications.

1. We should be a good person, that is, think and talk only good things.
2. We should have read a lot about god and heard a lot about god.
3. We should have great belief or faith in God.
4. We should be pious, and have habits like visiting the sacred places of worship, chanting slokas often, singing bhajans/hymns, or perform many rituals, etc.
5. All our relationships should be perfect.
6. We should have unconditional love.
7. We should have done a lot of seva or good deeds.
8. We should have attended a lot of processes, prayer sessions and satsanghs.
9. We should have come out of all negative thoughts and emotions, etc. etc. etc.

If the awakening of the Antaryamin is dependant on any of the above factors, none of us in oneness would have a live Antaryamin, as none of us qualifies as above. But it is a fact that many of us in oneness are experiencing a live god who talks, laughs, participates and guides in our heart. While all these above things will definitely help us to grow in our relationship with God, they are not the base for the Antaryamin to awaken.

For the Antaryamin to awaken, all we need is a GREAT PASSION to listen and follow the guidance of the Antaryamin and of course, to some extent, a good bond with (and gratitude for) our God. Antaryamin also gets awakened when we helplessly pray to God for guidance, fully realizing that that is the only guidance left! As long as we have alternatives for guidance, the Lord in our hearts will remain silent.

It is the Antaryamin ultimately that makes us a good human, a god realised human, taking us towards unconditional love, enlightenment or mukti. So Antaryamin is a sort of beginning.

Hence, one should not confuse the awakening of an Antaryamin God to the 'Awakening' or Enlightenment or Mukti that Sri Bhagavan speaks about. A person may have a strong Antaryamin but not be an enlightened being or a Mukta still. Not necessary. Though a strong Antaryamin takes us easily towards Mukti and gives us enlightenment experiences and enlightenment states, it is not the same as being enlightened.

We can have a strong Antaryamin but still have the ugly mind and really be ugly sometimes. This is some what like TWO SIDES of the same Coin. We are the Coin but have two sides, namely, the God and the Mind. We are either dominated by God or by the (Unconscious) Mind. When God dominates us, all our thoughts and actions become divine and when the Mind dominates us, we bring suffering to ourselves and others.

But we need the help of God to look into ourselves; to look at the Mind as a separate entity from us. It is only this God within us that can give us the courage and strength to look into the Mind filled with its filth and ugliness. It is definitely very beautiful to have a strong antaryamin god. He relieves us from so many conflicts and acts as our greatest friend and lessens our tensions and above all gives us so much love that we start seeing and accepting all our ugliness happily.

That is it. If the Antaryamin is strong, it does not mean that we do not have any ugliness inside us. If the Antaryamin is strong, we are able to look at that ugliness and accept it better and happily. The Antaryamin Bhagavan gives us this state where we love ourselves unconditiionally - as we are.

A person may not have a talking Antaryamin god. He may have the Antaryamin god as Formless, Silence and Presence. Still he has a strong Antaryamin, if he can look at the mind separate from himself or if he is experiencing the sacred teachings easily. That is an indication of having a strong Antaryamin God. However the Antaryamin God is, in what ever way/form the Antaryamin god may be, we should respect and VALUE the Antaryamin. The more the value we give to our Antaryamin God, the more active, our Antaryamin becomes.

So it does not matter if we are ugly and have all the 'doshas' (negativities) inside. The Antaryamin will still love us and talk to us and be with us and help us as a true friend.

SEVA, Processes, Darshans and havans give us a stronger and active Antaryamin.
