BOND WITH BHAGAVAN
"The more you recognize the hand of Grace in your life, the more it arrives, and there is no end to it" - SRI AMMA BHAGAVAN
A few years back, one night, it was 3.00 a.m. I got up from the middle of a nice sleep to go to the wash room. I came back and lied down to continue to sleep. Suddenly I found Sri Bhagavan sitting near my feet on the bed. I sat up in a jerk and asked Bhagavan what He wanted and why He did not sleep. He just looked at me and and asked me, "Anu, you know the story of Nandanar, is it not?" and continued to narrate the story to me.
Nandanar was a great devotee of Lord Shiva in South India and was working as a farmer under an employer. A few days before Sivarathri, Nandanar wanted to visit the Shiva Temple and asked his employer for leave. His employer rejected his leave application saying that he was born in a low caste and was not eligible to go to the temple. He also scolds Nandanar for having such wrong passions and neglecting his work. And in that anger, he said that Nandanar could go to the temple the next day if he finished all the harvesting and cleaning on the very same day.
That work actually took days to get finished and it was impossible for Nandanar to do it. Nandanar became sad, worked on the fields to the maximum and fell down in the end in sheer tiredness. Soon he became conscious and got up and alas, he was stunned to see the entire field harvested and cleaned, exactly the way the employer challenged. He ran to his employer who did not believe Nandanar but came to the fields to see the miracle. On seeing the miracle, the employer fell at the feet of Nandanar, and recognizing the greatness of Nandanar's love for God, allowed him to take leave and go to the temple.
Nandanar went to the temple but was not allowed inside as he was from a low caste. Nandanar stood outside the temple and tried to have a view of Shiva in the inside shrine. But the statue of Nandi, the cow, was obliterating his view. As Nandanar's passion to see the Lord was so much, the statue of Nandi moved miraculously to allow Nandanar to have a good view of the Lord. Seeing the Nandi moving, all the people in the temple ran to Nandanar and invited him inside. Nandanar in all his love and bhakti for Shiva, sang His praise and walked inside to the sanctrum shrine and merges physically with Shiva in the shrine.
Sri Bhagavan narrated this story and asked me this question, "Now tell me, Anu, who had greater passion? Nandanar had great passion to see Shiva or Shiva had great passion to see Nandanar? Who had greater passion?" I was stunned by the question and said, "It appeared that Lord Shiva wanted to see Nandanar and that was why He did the miracle and called Nandanar to Himself".
The Lord nodded His head and looked at me with ALL LOVE. As I answered and saw Him, I got goose pimples all over the body! I could see the Great Love in Bhagavan's eyes, not just for me, but for the entire human race, for whom He had come down to earth - to meet and collect us - His own people! He had come down all the way from Satyaloka, just to take us back to Himself, like the way He took Nandanar. In the process, He did so many miracles for us, paving way for us to reach Him and ultimately become one with Him.
In all this process, He did not care what others spoke of Him, thought of Him, did to Him or tried to damage His work. His only concern was WE - OURSELVES.
Sri Bhagavan said, "Devotees should have a devotion like Nandanar. That is the height of Bhakti (bond with god) one should have. When their bond and bhakti are as great as Nandanar's, No God can stop Himself from doing Miracles. Miracles are then inevitable".
Sri Bhagavan and Amma do not know anything else. They do not think of anything else, except to help us and give us enlightenment and make us divine and make us one with all gods and THEMSELVES. That is their Sankalpa and that is the purpose of their Avatar. It is even enough if we all realise this. The rest of the things, Amma and Bhagavan will do for us.
“If you have good communion with God, everything happens instantaneously." - Sri Amma Bhagavan
What I have discovered is - when we start to keep a bond with Them in the beginning, it is always Amma and Bhagavan who keep the bond with us, with their unconditional love and grace! So much is their love for mankind! All we can do consciously is, recognize and feel this truth and thank them for all that! I can keep on writing and writing about Their love and still express very little. All the words in the dictionary cannot express Amma and Bhagavan's love for Mankind!
Sri Bhagavan's Mahavakya:
"It is not enough if you know that I exist, you must know Me personally. To know Me personally is to achieve Mukti".
